The city of Oakland definitely deserves its own sub-region. It is home to some of the most progressive food and entertainment in the bay area. Certainly as much as San Francisco when more of the east bay is considered. Some of the top highlights include:

Sweet Maria's Coffee
Linden Street Brewery
Arizmendi

If you are coming to the bay area, don't forget to head over to Oakland!

I agree! (Well, I guess we could call it the East Bay region and include Berkeley, plus the other little towns around here).

I would second an East Bay section. To many good sized cities around the bay area to lump it all into SF.
