What are the nicer/safer areas close to San Francisco, California?

When I do get to san francisco, I want to make sure its a good safe area as I was raised in a badddd area for 11 years before we moved to a different state, and I don't wanna re-live those moments. I was going to move to Mission Viejo, but if I don't, I wanna move around the San Francisco area. Where would you recommend? Help would be appreciated. Thank you!!!
