The Canadian Beer Scene

What's your favourite domestic brewery?

I am a big fan of small scale breweries... Kawartha Lakes, Scotch Irish, Propeller, Wellington... All favourites of mine.

Being from the beer wasteland that is Manitoba, there is very little local selection. Half Pints and Fort Gary have good beer, but far from the best. Right now for Canadian beer, my tops is Red Racer ESB from Surry BC.

Mine.

If it has to be commercial, large scale would be Moosehead Lager, small would be Wellington Dark.

What is the most popular beer in terms of sales in Canada, Budweiser or Molson?

I'm in Rochester, New York -- not too far from Canada at all. Do you know if Canadian microbrews are exported? I'd like to sample a few you guys recommend and we have some pretty good beer stores down this way.

Hey Brian. You need to try some of the beers made by Unibroue. My favorites are Maudite and Ephemere.

There's plenty of places that sell it in Rochester.

Go to Unibroue. It's a great site with lots of interesting content and there's a place where you can enter you zip, city or whatever to find out where you can buy it near you

There's also a lot of great recipes and for every beer there's a nice vid about it's history, the legend behind it and how to serve and enjoy it.

I can't recommend this site enough because it's so darn slick and full of excellent content.

Cheers!

PS I've been drinking the beer but had never looked at the site before tonight.

My favorite has to be the Cascadian Brown Ale from Phillips Brewing in Victoria BC. Their double IPA is also fantastic. Their standard pale ale is great too.
