How the hell do you manage to carve pumpkins like that? I can carve a few things in wood, but with pumpkins I'm hopeless. Just ask my kids.

About 7 years of frustration, trial and error lol. I carve in all kinds of things, Halloween is the busy time of year though. People send me designs they want done, and I do them. I still do real pumpkins, but prefer using foam ones now. Just got to be too depressing to spend 2 - 8 hours on a design only to watch it disintegrate in a couple of days. Not to mention people don't mind paying an extra $25 for a pumpkin that they can keep forever. I take any pic that people want and carve it, I don't make alot of money at it, but that's not why I do it anyway, I do it for the enjoyment. The first pumpkin is of my nephews, I'll post the pic it came from so you can compare.

Amazing resemblance. That's pretty neat.
I wouldn't have the patience for such painstaking work.

Well I thank you for the compliment, I like the wood carvings you've done, especially the welcome sign, that would look great at the cottage.

And she thanks you for the compliment. Kudos's for putting a smile on her face.

I gotta tell you it's a lot nicer live. That's a pretty lousy photo.

Here's another lousy pic of one of her recent combobulations.

I'm surprised I missed all these. Is a vernisage a art viewing with chees & wine?

I really liked the moon. I like letting the wood guide me into helping it become what it was meant to be.

A small local hospital had these pieces on a wall. It grabbed me.

I loved painting but I could tell it was going to be a big thing to learn to do well. Oils felt best but the drying times are a deal breaker. Acryllics are easy but lack the gravitas of an oil.

I'd suggest water colors as a starting point. The drying time is short and if you use washes you can get some very nice subtle tones.

Before anyone gets too deeply involved in oil paints read about the Flemish painters and underpainting.
