My mom and grandma live in the Arctic circle... if you wear the right gear it's an amazing place to visit. I love visiting her and the rest of my family there, although I am partial to Virginia climate now so I wouldn't be able to live there. I took the first 3 pictures, my mom took the last 2 and sent them to me.

She and my grandma currently live in Norman Wells, right on the MacKenzie River. My grandma's family are in Aklavik wich is even further North. It's beautiful but very cold in the winter

Wow. I just googled Aklavik. You can't get much further north than that without falling into the Beaufort Sea!

I'm guessing that's considered part of the MacKenzie River delta right? The amount of water I'm seeing there is pretty extreme. How are the mosquitos up there when everything thaws out?

Ever since reading Farley Mowatt's tales of the Canadian north many years ago I've wanted to visit that area of our country.

Post more pics if you have them.

Nice.
That tree would be perfect material for a chain saw sculpture
But it would be a pity to cut it down.
Do people canoe/kayak/raft Bluerock Creek.
It looks like a great place for whitewater fun.
