Good Camping preferably primitive with a swimming hole?

Anybody know of a good place within an hour or two of charlotte to go camping that's not a "campground", you know not a place with mowed grass and picnic tables every 30 ft.? I go to uwharrie sometimes, and i love it there, but im looking somewhere with a nice stream/lake/river to jump in since its starting to get to hot to camp without one. Any body know of one? Ive heard that there is some spots in uwharrie, but all ive ever seen is little streams, not much to hang out and swim in.
