Live music in Charlotte, NC

Hey, just moved to the university area of charlotte in mid august and was wondering where some decent and preferably free live music was around town? I stumbled upon the wine vault at university place near Tyron and Harris. any others good ones people know about?

Right next door at billy's boardwalk. Also head down Tryon towards the track and turn left at the 2nd light I believe. Check out Stool Pigeons and the flying saucer.

I think amos's on the south end has some decent bands play every once in a while...but not sure if they're free.

I was up at the Galway Hooker Irish pub in Cornelius a few weeks ago and they had some really good free music. I guess they get quite a few good musicians in there.

Music in Charlotte

Someone said the Flying Saucer has live music. They have not had bands in for the last 12 months.

Creative Loafing Magazine can give you up to date info. Creative Loafing Charlotte | Home
The list in the latest issue (picked up at the Flying Saucer) they show:
  • No Cover several nights - NC Music Factory
  • Live Music - Wild Wing Cafe
  • Snug Harbor, Downtown

Check it out, and you may find other locations that interest you!

Nobody mentioned Tremont Music Hall... haven't been there in years, but that was always a popular venue when I lived around CLT (not free though). Its still around right?

+1 for The Visulite and The Neighborhood Theatre are my favorites. best venues, usually the best bands. having said that, i still haven't been to the new music factory (partially cause kiddos and partially cause it appears to be rather pricey for tickets and beers).
