My view - Pros and Cons of Chicago

I have been in and around Chicago since 1994, living in the city itself as well as the suburbs.

Pros:
  • Chicago is a beautiful city and it is clean as cities go
  • The shopping and dining is fantastic - you can get all different kinds of ethnic foods and buy just about anything here
  • There are ample employment opportunites in business
  • It is close to a major international airport

Cons:
  • Roads are always under construction, even when they don't seem to need it
  • Traffic is pretty bad, RED LIGHT CAMERAS
  • Politicians are corrupt
  • Taxes are very high. I am paying ~11% tax on my lunch every workday. Yet the CTA and City is always crying broke. Something doesn't add up. New taxes appear from nowhere. I had to pay a one-time buying tax when buying my condo, then by the time I went to sell there was a new selling tax. Yet they sell off rights to parking meters to the highest bidder and now it is more expensive to park.
  • It is a 'sanctuary city' for illegals, as chosen by our politicians.
  • Murders are high, yet Daley wants to take away your 2nd amendment rights to defend yourself. Despite McDonald Supreme Court decision overturning Chicago's ban on firearms, Daley comes back with some of the most restrictive rules in the country. You seriously think that these rules are affecting the criminals, Daley? Look at the record of crime in Chicago and see that your handgun ban was counter-productive.

Sounds like the pros and cons of any major city in the U.S.

How about the wind? I would think that would be a con.

I went there once to watch my son graduate from the Great Lakes Naval Training Center and was impressed with how clean and nice the town was!

I'll take the wind any day over the other cons

Did you know that the "Windy City" refers to the politicians? Most people don't know this.

Professional sports is a nice touch.
It sucks that every time I want to go to a NHL game I have to road trip for hours.

Yeah, people get a certain idea into their heads and have a hard time letting it go.

Like most politicians, they like to "look" like they"re solving problems. There's a gun crime problem, let's ban guns, yeah that's it.
And somehow, this will make criminals think twice about using a gun!.....As if that will make the difference
