Previous 6 flags

Can anyone tell me what the theme park was before it was Six Flags. I remember visiting when I was a kid. I believe, not sure, that is started with a G. This was prob give or take 10-15 years ago. I miss that place it was awesome.

That would be Geauga Lake. It is no longer a theme and coaster park, but just a water park.

It was awesome and so close. Now it's just close.

Trying to do this from memory, so bear with me.
  • 1960's-1990's: Geauga Lake Park - Funtime, Inc. (Funtime was a company founded by 3 former Cedar Point guys)
  • Early 1990's: Geauga Lake Park - Premiere Parks (Funtime, Inc. was sold to Premiere Parks)
  • 1999: Geauga Lake - Six Flags, Inc. (In '98 Premiere Parks bought Six Flags from Time Warner, in '99 they changed their name to Six Flags Inc.)
  • 2000: Six Flags Ohio - Six Flags Inc
  • 2001: Six Flags Worlds of Adventure - Six Flags, Inc (Sea World was purchased and merged in during the 2001 season)
  • 2004: Geauga Lake - Cedar Fair (SFWoA was sold to Cedar Fair, a.k.a. Cedar Point)
  • 2005: Geauga Lake and Wildwater Kingdom - Cedar Fair (rebranding)
  • 2007: Geauga Lake's Wildwater Kingdom - Cedar Fair (park was drastically/permanently downsized)

There's a website that has pictures from when the auction happened several years ago, the website was www.illicitohio.com but it looks like he's doing site maintenance right now so they are up, maybe check it out later though, pretty interesting.

Cant Keep a Amusment park running in a place where there is no other reason to visit, I should know I grew up in biking distance from the place and spent a lot of time there as a kid when it was still Geauga Lake.

It sucks every time I drive by there and still see the Big Dipper. It's the last of the major coasters that wasn't sold. It is slowly starting to decay ...

I used to love going to Geauga Lake & Sea World, it's a real shame that they aren't there anymore...

I just drove past here yesterday, it is rather depressing to see it rotting away.
