If we would all forget political parties and just vote for the person that is best for the job, then maybe things will eventually change!

In Colorado Springs, we recently had an election for mayor. One candidate ran constant ads on TV and in the papers and some of them were negative ads. I only saw one interview of the other candidate on the news, no ads or attacks on his opponent.

I had to wonder why any politician would spend so much on an election that would gain him a job with such a small paycheck! It made me wonder what he was planning on making on side deals and other kick backs.

I don't see this ever happening. Because of the differing ideologies of the parties. People will align themselves with the party that most closely resembles the way they think.
And candidates need political parties. For economical support and connections. Political parties I don't think will ever be done away with. I just can't see how it would happen.
