Any good spots to legally dump garbage?

Gettting rid of garbage is getting pretty expensive. Does anyone know where I get take stuff to the dump without paying crazy fees?

I don't think there is a dump, landfill or transfer station that does not charge a fee!

But please, do not just go dump it anywhere. there is nothing worse than being out on some trail and finding a pile of garbage! I carry extra bags with me all the time and bring out more than I bring in. I once brought my small trailer out an picked up a bunch of trash, it cost me $20 at the transfer station but it was worth it!

Are you doing all you can to recycle everything that can be, in an effort to reduce the amount of waste? Could be someone near you, for instance, who would pick up your organics for compost.
