So I grew up in Connecticut (Glastonbury to be exact) and rarely make it home even though I'm only 1.5 hours away (Boston). Since my parents are out of touch with the Hartford and local area hot-spots, does anyone have any good local bars to check out with a good craft beer selection (draft or bottle)?
The Half Door is a great beer bar (often has multiple Belgians on tap, good range of more esoteric imports). The fact that they serve really good food is an added bonus.
Eli Cannon's in Middletown is a must for a beer enthusiast. In the summer you can sit outside on their large patio and enjoy a cigar with your beer. Not many places left where you can do that.
The half door does have a variety of beers (mostly imports). The food is rather good too. Only downside is that the beers are expensive. Don't be surprised spending $8+ on a bottle of an import. On the contrary, they have a special on Wednesdays $2 Irish drafts -all day. Atmosphere is awesome though, old style pub makes you feel like your in another country.
Eli cannons is awesome for good beer, also there is Plan B in glastonbury, they are known for their burgers but usually have a great assortment of microbrews on tap.
