Detroit proper is a wasteland of boarded up and burned out buildings. If you like sports the Wings and Tigers are always a fun game to attend.

S.E. Michigan is a boaters paradise. The great lakes and lots of inland lakes to fish. What types of things interest you?

There are plenty of things to do in Detroit. I don't know if you make it down there much, but I work down there quite often mostly in the rougher neighborhoods. My gf is a bartender at a club downtown. There are several good clubs, not far from Detroit is Ferndale and Royal Oak which are also great places to hang out.

The River Walk is beautiful if the weather is nice.

Detroit as a downtown has it's gems, but they are somewhat spread out. It's not particularly walkable like say downtown Chicago save for the sports areas on game days.

The Detroit Metro Area which includes the surrounding cities has everything you could need out of a city. You need a car though.
