Black Tie Optional

What is the rule on black tie weddings?

Is that a bowtie, or is the tie an option too?

I know in Texas you can get away with bolos, so I'm not overly concerned with protocol, just more curious than anything.

Although if you can pull off a black bowtie and do it well, I'd be very impressed. That's a tough thing to do.

black tie is black bow tie and only a Texan would think a bolo "pulls it off". It really just places you geographically.

Jake, you have the best looking dress blues in any service but you can tie a black bowtie? Rethink Wichita.

I used to wear one of those babies every night when I was a Maitre'd.
And a stinking tux.
Now I don't go anywhere unless I can wear jeans.

Haha, I've never pulled off a bowtie. I've worn one, but wearing and pulling off are two totally different things. I think it takes a special kinda man to wear one, and wear it well at the same time.

Well then I guess it's a good thing I live here.

I don't own one and am not a fan, but my point was that in Texas, things like black tie optional lead to things cattle skulls, hence some sort of informality to most everything we do.
