Wristwatch blog ablogtoread.com caught the exclusive debut of Tag Heuer's Link Smartphone, another device in the very small "Luxury Android" category that carries an almost $7,000 pricetag.
Tag Heuer is a division of the Luis Vuitton Moet Hennessy luxury goods conglomerate, and this is only its second luxury mobile phone.
The main attraction of this device is its chassis, which comes in 316L Stainless steel, 18k gold or titanium with trim in rubber, alligator, lizard or calfskin/carbon leather, and the 3.5" screen is made of Corning's Gorilla Glass.
In terms of tech specs, it's actually quite unremarkable. It runs on Android 2.2 with what appears to be a custom Tag Heuer skin, has 256 MB of RAM and an 8GB SD card, a single 5 Megapixel camera, and an undisclosed applications processor speed. The Tag Heuer Link comes in quad-band GSM and tri-band CDMA models, and has Bluetooth 2.1, AGPS, and "wi-fi" (presumably 802.11 b/g.)
The starting price on this smartphone is expected to be ?4700, and Tag Heuer has not announced international availability or regional pricing.
Though it seems pricey, this is not the most expensive Android phone to have hit the market. That honor goes to the Ulysse Nardin Chairman, a custom-built Android smartphone which first appeared last year in various combinations that cost upwards of $130,000.
