I tried growing some things here several times, and something gets INSIDE the screening and GOBBLES it all down to nothing. I can't even grow chilies without them pesty little rascals eating em up. I can't even go organic here at home in a cage.
In the desert your garden is probably vegetable nirvana for every creature with a taste for greens. I can't guess what manner of pests you might have.
Does AZ have shrews?

There are different grades of produce and the higher grades or premium produce cost more and are of better quality. A lot also depends on the store and their employees, proper handling and knowledge goes a long way with how the final product looks and taste.

We live in Las Vegas, NV. We discovered a grocery store called Cardena's. It's geared toward Hispanic folks and english isn't the primary language. The produce is KILLER! Fresh and inexpensive. Country of origin clearly posted (with "USA" prominently displayed). I loaded a Spanish/American dictionary on my Android to aid in the shopping. I love it!
