Treasure Hunting / Prospecting

In your area are there any well known places to go treasure hunting or prospecting?

Anyone have any luck at it?

I've heard that after a good rain one can find old arrow heads and the like around our city. I live in a 100+ year old house, and have had fun 'prospecting' when I had to crawl under or dig up the yard!

Only thing that comes to mind is geocaching though I've never gotten into it.

I wish, that's something I could get into.

I have family, Wife's side, that hunt arrow heads, they have massive collections.

Does anyone here have a metal detector?

I also want to say the law of finders keepers would protect me, but I realize playground rules may not protect me in the long run. Are there any laws on treasuring hunting?

My daughter was cleaning up her front yard to do some landscaping. While digging up rocks, she noticed a shiny object and dug it up. It was a Rolex watch and band. She took it to a jeweler, who said it was from the 50's, and he gave her $1,000 for it!!

She lives out in the boonies and we have no way of knowing how it got out there!!
