Our house is 1750 sq ft. in Oswego, NY For may 2011:
Elect-112.08 (12.1 cents per kwh, supply & delivery)-stays constant throughout the year
Water - 26.10 (quarterly) Not quite sure of usage, we always hit the minimum charge or 7000 gallons
Fuel Oil - 103 per month (on budget plan)
Don't know what it will be here in Detroit but in San Francisco our 1300 sqft house was about $30 for gas and we have solar so actually negative for electricity. Out total electric bill for 12 months comes to less than $50. The gas is lower because we put in a high efficiency furnace. It used to be more like $40 - $50 on average with some $80 or so in the winter.
As someone mentioned for a study you should probably be asking about rates also since you have no idea if someone's bill is high because the rate is high or because they are running a kiln in the basement.
I live in one bedroom appartmen in Odessa Ukraine. I spend the electric 13$ per mo it's about 300kWt. Watter about 5$ / mo . Сentral heating from oсtober till april about 40$/mo. And other bills about 20$/mo.
from memory is that my water is metered .
I live alone and use about 900 gal per month. $17.15 is the cost per month.
(that is the min payment no matter how little you use.)
Gas= $zero I'm hooked to a gas well (Gas furnace, hotwater tank, and clothes dryer)
Electric is from from $39-$160

i'm not sure what the rate is. i do know that the rate has been increased, because the cap has been removed (which was a really smart move done by our former governor). on average, we pay about $180.00 a month. our provider is pp&l
