GO! If you ever get the chance or idea in your head - GO!!!! That's what my wife did. She got the idea in her head and said "we're going to Hawaii," and that was that. We saved what we could on our tight budget, and the rest went on credit. Contrary to what I hear people saying, things are not very much more expensive than in the states, especially if you stay away from the touristy-markup places.

It is WAAAAAY better than Florida!

Heck, even McDonald's is better than in the mainland.

I agree. Honestly, before being stationed out here I really had no future plans to visit Hawaii.

But after being here, I definitely wish that I would've taken the chance to come out here and visit.

It's one of things you can try to explain, but you're not really going to appreciate it unless you actually come. It's MUCH different than Florida, I can tell you that much.

The atmosphere out here is incredibly laid back, and certainly the "Aloha Spirit" is alive and well. I've been stationed around the country, and even abroad, and have never found a place as fun and full of so many things to do.

Even after I leave and get stationed somewhere else, I certainly will make multiple trips back here to unwind. There's really no other place like it.

I have been 4 times and am heading back in December, it is by far worth every dime!! The one trick I have found to save money and enjoy my stay more is we rent a house in Kailua and get away from the crowds, its cheaper than a Hotel and we are right on the beach!

Absolutely! Especially if you stay away from the resorts and get off the beaten path. Cheaper that way too. If all you want to do is lay around on the beach, there's a lot of closer places to do that. But if you want to see and do what most of the tourists never see, then rent a Jeep and do your own thing, you will not regret it.
I've been there 3 times, and the last was my wedding/honeymoon.

My wife and I went in 2004, and look forward to going again maybe in a year or two. I have been to Florida too, and there's no comparison. Even the tourist trap areas are worth it though you do need to get out and about to see things off the beaten path.

There are much fewer "blue hairs" in Hawaii, and the people speak English!

As an Islander, let me add to the hype:

The photos of the volcano, I took it off from the internet. The last photo of Grace Park, when we had the premiere of "Hawaii Five-O" right on Waikiki Beach.....
