ALOHA!

I can tell you what months to stay away. AUGUST! Lots of tourist from Japan and later part of August, Koreans comes down along with the continental United States because of school summer vacation!
Late October till mid-March is the usual rainy season in Hawaii. End of March is end of school for Japan, and second week of April is Japan's Golden Week Holiday.
I am mentioning this because of the hotels in Waikiki usually become booked by the Japanese tourist coming here with their children during school break.

April, May, June, and July are better. September and beginning of October is grand, because the beaches are less crouded in Waikiki, and October and November, we have fabulous sunsets.

And when we have our drough season during el-nino, you can enjoy beautiful beach weather during Christmas and New Years! Something to behold! Enjoying the beach ON Christmas DAY!

The photo below of Diamondhead, was taken by me right on Christmas Eve 2009 !

Well, any time is going to be gorgeous here really. I'm also an Oahuan, like 808, and I agree with everything he said - he described it all pretty well. Just decide when you'd like to come most. I enjoy the months where it's less crowded - but maybe your thing is people. Let us know what you decide!

UPDATE: Japan's Golden Week is between April 29 - May 05. Because of the tragedy in Japan, our tourism from Japan has been slashed by 45% - 60% for NOW. So the best month to come here is month of May, and end of July when Hawaii's local kids return to school. August will be busy. September will be the most ideal month till out rainy season starts up at the end of October.

ALOHA!

After end of August, you will be fine! Less people on the beaches!

Rainy season USUALLY starts at the end of October right around Halloween. And sporatically rains right through mid-Janualry. But MOST times, you can enjoy a day at the beach on Christmas Day & New Years Day!

I'd agree with after august. The tourists have really died down then.

I was on the beach camping last Christmas :-) So while rainy season might seem risky, it's often worth it!
