Color Bulb to Repel Bugs

Are there certain colors of outdoor lighting that will repel bugs?

Green, red?

Bug zapper are blue?

Iirc they make certain fluorescent bulbs that drive bugs away, but I don't believe it has anything to do with the color.

I've seen some lights at baseball fields that glow yellow, never seemed to be any bugs around them.

There are no colors that repel bugs. The yellow or orange ones sold as "bug bulbs" simply do not attract them as much as regular clear bulbs. The bug zapper bulbs attract them the idea being to get them to cross the charged wires and get electrocuted. Citronella candles/oil torches do repel bugs, they don't like the smell...unfortunately you might not like it either.

We've got really bad flies out here on Oahu... I've tried everything up to the same fly-traps that we use in Iraq/Afghan

Nothing works! It's awful.

That's what I use in my flood lights. It also
turns the yard yellow at night, which is kind
of cool.

I use a yellow bulb in my back yard where my dogs stay on the deck. It only attracts a few moths but not very many at all. I used to have a regular bulb there and my deck, the wall around the light and the fixture itself always had thousands of moths, junebugs and whatever else was flying around out there in the acreage around it. They aren't as bright but they work well. I have had trouble finding energy efficient bulbs in yellow though.
