the copper dragon is still around, haven't checked out the beer selection yet though.... i like the quieter bars

The Hangar 9 in Carbondale is now open. (closed fro two years after the roof collapsed) 16 beers on tap, great music venue. Going to see Tweakbird tonight!!

I miss Hangar9. Used to almost live there back in 89-92, saw a ton of good bands there.

Technically Northern Illinois, but I imagine you mean "downstate" (not Chi): The Blue Cat in Rock Island and Bent River in Moline both have some great brews.
