we have great hunting and fishing. true sports for true men, not childrens games. really sports that you can use in life. the true blue nation you speak of is a bunch of collage kids who haven't got laid in to long and have to sit and be brain washed by liberial teachers everyday. they shouldn't be allowed to vote for gods sake to say the least after being brainwashed by the teachers to think socialism is a great thing.

@nobody is right.

I'm part of the big blue nation, and the professors are entirely socialists.

We have horses, and that's about it. I wouldn't visit KY if I wasn't living here, but it's a decent place to live if you don't like too much commotion but want nice-sized cities and towns.

Good grief I read two posts and I already wonder what planet these people are from. They sure don't seem like the Kentuckians I know.

The mountains and the parks are a great reason to visit Kentucky. They have one of the best state park systems in the nation. And the scenery in the eastern and southern parts of the state is incredibly beautiful. Pay no attention to the townies who never made it east of Mt. Sterling. They are missing one of God's most beautiful creations. The mountains, the lakes, and the rivers make eastern Ky a great place to visit whether you want to hunt or fish or go rock climbing or just do the tourist thing. I love these mountains and I'll never leave this area again unless I move even further into the mountains. I live in Ohio now actually but I can be in KY in 2 minutes. If you could see my farm you'd know what heaven on earth looks like. A river, bottom lands, hills, and a big pond all have their attractions. The hunting is great, the ATV trails are great, the fishing is ok but I can be in a state park from my farm in 10 minutes or less. The fishing is great there.

Man you just don't like team sports do you? It's not about teachers and other other not living in reality socialists. It's just basketball. I personally don't like basketball. Skinny kids in short pants playing indoors is not for me. But the "Big Blue Nation" is a rather huge group of people ranging from little kids to people in their 90's. Hippys to farmers all eyes fixed on the game. You pretty much have to get to Louisville to see other than UK things hanging off peoples vehicles. I'm way south in Rockcastle County and will see a UK logo a few times just driving to town. And about 2 if 10 people wearing it on their person. I have not seen a more rabid fan base for any team professional or not that you will see for UK basketball.

For me it's football. The rest of the year is the slow season. I follow UK but am not what one would call a fan. I m more into the NFL. But I will watch college ball if I think the game will be good. What do you think about football nobody? is that a kids game?

@KingGhidora
You are exactly right. Central and east Ky have some of the most beautiful land I've been blessed to see. The hunting and fishing are some of the best I've done anywhere in the U.S. If one strays away from the touristy stuff you can see things that will just make your jaw drop. Some of the best people you will ever meet live in Ky. I grew up in Ohio also and used to go to Somerset to fish. I ended up moving there and lived in Somerset until it got to looking more and more like Lexington then moved to where I am now. A place I can shoot at 100 yard targets of my porch. It's not uncommon to see a large group of Turkey or deer.

I took this pic with my cell as I was going down my road. It's a pretty common sight around here. How can anyone not love a view like this!

I certainly love a view like that. I have one right out my front door quite often. Also I can sit in my favorite chair and shoot tight groups at 50 yards out my front door. I can stretch that out to about 100 yards if I get up and walk outside. And that's on the home parcel of land. I can do a lot more than that on my farm. And I don't have any neighbors for a mile or so unless I cross the river (which isn't that easy to do).

Kentucky is a fabulous state. It's way better than any state I've ever been to with the possible exception of West Virginia. Both are great and so are the people.

king,

i think i have been on a rimfire site you used to be on before. i shoot a.r.a. and ir50/50 myself.

my next move be be onto nothing less than 30 acres. i want to be able to sit naked on my front porch and not have to worry about the mailman seeing me when he puts my mail in my mail box.

i'm not into grown men playing childrens games. there is a time and place for that. when they are 5-15 it is fine. after that they have nothing to do with reality. just like the 30 year olds i work with that still do nothing but play video games after they get off work.

childrens games end when we reach adult hood. if not the players have nothing to give to the human races period.

I wondered if that was you posting here. I can see your point about sports but it's entertainment. It beats watching reruns of stupid sitcoms. At least something new and different might happen when you watch. Sports can give you a big adrenalin rush if you like it. To me it's the best thing on tv. I guess I learned it from my dad. He loved sports. I was almost one of those guys running around in short pants at UK. I broke my leg two days before I was supposed to start playing there.

I know what you mean about wanting to be off to yourself. I live in the country again and I'm not moving back to the city until the weeds take over my house because I can't cut them anymore. I have some places where I can sit around like you describe but we're too close to the road to do it on the porch. We're about 100 yards from the road though. Cars going by only get about a 2 second view of our place too. I have trees that are 120 foot tall and I have a flat area down by the creek which makes the trees look another 30 foot tall. And I have the full canopy too. Technically it could be called old growth forest here but I wouldn't want the government to catch on to that. It beats the heck out of living in town. My farm though is even better. It's 86 acres and it's almost a mile off the pavement with a dead end dirt road being the only access. Now that's a place where you can sit with your pants off. My best friend owns the farm between me and the pavement too. I grew up on that farm and it is plumb isolated. That's just the way I like it too. The only problem with living there is there isn't enough water. We drilled several wells and we had a spring but the wells never produced enough water and what water was there turned out to be contaminated from who knows what. We had cisterns and the spring which is enough for a couple of people but I couldn't raise my kids there the way we grew up. Times have changed and people need more water these days if they want to fit in. We didn't even have indoor plumbing if that tells you anything. No phones either. There's a lot more people who live across the river now but when we lived there we were pretty much on our own. If you're interested you can see a satellite view of it
My cousin is the only one who lives there now in my grandmother's old house. I grew up right at the end of Lower Wildcat only they only called it Wildcat when I lived there. My cousin is a bit of a nut that likes to shoot at people though. He's caused us a lot of trouble. Still it's better than no one living there. The farm is still a family farm actually. I only own a percentage of it. But that's enough for me.

BTW nobody I do shoot some ARA but my club treats it like a poker game instead of a shooting match. I have religious reasons for not wanting to be part of that. But I do shoot ARA targets here at home. My best score so far has been a 2150 using my Savage MkIIBTV. The only modification it has is the front pillar has been bedded. But I'll need to go out to the gun club and shoot a few targets just to show what I can do. I haven't shot that well or even close to it when I've shot in their compeitions but again I find myself not really even wanting to do well because I don't want to take anyone's money. I just don't like to gamble at all. At one time I did it a lot but that was before I got saved. Plus I get excited when I shoot competitively. That's just a lack of concentration on my part. Still when I feel like I'm ready I'm going back out to shoot in the competitions. It's not for the money. I just want to have a record of my targets.
