Santa Monica Pier is a great place on a nice day. Interesting things going on and the Mexican restrauant on the end of the pier is a good place to people-watch and share a plate on nachos. We always sit outside facing the beach. With the palms trees and the surf it makes us feel like we're on vacation even when we are only going out to lunch...

I agree with Getty Museum. Also there is Getty Villa in Pacific Palisades. Both are free and great places to take a date. You have to book tickets in advance at Getty Villa on their website.

In a similar vein you can try Huntington Library/Huntington Gardens in Pasadena.

You might also try something like the LA Farmer's Market at 3rd and Fairfax.

For good food a bit closer to USC try Lazy Ox in Little Tokyo.

You can always go ice skating in Woodland Hills. It is open until February.

Ice Skating sounds like a great idea. Umami Burger? If nothing else I'm intrigued by the name

I'd say the spanish kitchen near Hollywood. I'm still with the girl I took there so it must have been good. Plus they are the original creators of infused tequila.
