every year here colorado, seems like a bicyclist gets ran over, I was brought up NOT to ride a bicycle in the street, let alone on the highway...

The city of Blackhawk has banned bicycle ridding on the streets, they say they are doing this BEFORE someone dies, but Im sure they are doing it before someone dies and the family tries to sue the city..
Id NEVER ride a bicycle in the street, drivers nowadays do NOT watch where they are driving, to busy talking on the cell, putting make up on, Ive even seen people "reading a book" while driving, just isnt worth it to me, my life is much to valuable

as an avid cyclist I've learned:
  • that its always best to not ride at sunrise or sunset (when the sun is low in driver's eyes)
  • its always better to ride in groups
  • always assume the driver can't see you

Sadly, as a pastor I officiated over the memorial service of a local high school teacher who was killed while cycling to school during sunrise last year. The driver couldn't see the cyclist from the low glare of the sun. So tragic.

You always have to remember who you chose to share the road with and never forget that.

Yes, it is perfectly legal for a bicyclist to ride on the roadway, provided they ride with the flow of traffic, and obey all the traffic signals.
