If you head west there are tons of trails in Savoy, Windsor, and Pittsfield State forests. October Mountain is in the Pittsfield State Forest. Florida Mountain and Hawley are thrown in the mix there too. A lot of the trails actually connect from town to town.

Jeepx...

You should join a club. They get access to land that you can't get onto w/o them. I belong to Baystate Jeepers. Their rides are typically in NH. Here's the site:

Baystate Jeepers, Inc. Frames Website

Go to "other group links"

The last "forest" in Rowley/Georgetown closed to OHRVs 2-3 years ago. From where you are, I'd head North

There are many clubs in mass. I belong to usajeepowners and they are members of the NEA. I you don't own a Jeep are there individual clubs for all types of vehicles. There is alot of private land that is coowned by the NEA and is legal as long as you follow the rules.

Hey I live in Lowell too, great to see someone else from around here
I'm also a member of Western Mass 4x4 you should check us out. There really isn't any legal wheelin here in the eastern part of Mass, all the wheelin is out West. Every now and then we have free public runs for registered users on the site, it gives people a chance to come out with us and see what were all about.

Here's the link if interested: Western Mass. 4x4 (wm4x4)- Home

Freetown is a good place to ride, more of a open mud pit when you take the powerlines. Copicut road can be pretty amusing as well.
