Off-road trails

Anyone know of some good off road trails for Jeeps near the Twin Cities. I dig the Iron Range but that's a little far to go without a long weekend for me and my family. I'm thinking day-trip.

Have you tried the MN DNR website?

The DNR doesn't cover private land that people run. There has to be some groups in the area that wouldn't mind some new members that are looking for some local recreation.

the dnr does show some relatively close locations but they don't look too impressive. I've thought about joining a 4wd club but it's difficult to dedicate the time with full time job and two young kids.

The closest ORV park is in Appleton. It's an hour and a half west of me and I live in Watertown which is just west of Lake Minnetonka. Everything else around the "cities" is for ATV only.

I love the thought of going off-road in my Jeep, but I do have to think that I will chicken out and keep it on the road... Anyone use the lakes in Wintertime?

you can do it, take that jeep off road. start small then work your way up...if you do plan to take it off road in MN get it licensed as an off highway vehicle with the DNR. it only costs like 40 bucks for a 3 year registration and the money collected helps with trails and enforcement. go to your local DMV to do it.

there aren't that many places in MN to go wheeling and all of them require the OHV sticker.

i have in the past played around on frozen lakes. it has been a while though.

good luck with the jeep! chicks dig body damage.
