I live around the jackson area and it's not great to me, the clubs are just boring and in bad parts of town, not too many good jobs available, I had to take a job out of state to make a somewhat decent living. I would like to get out of Mississippi, I lived in Washington for almost 2 years and it was great up there other than raining almost everyday, my biggest mistake was moving back to MS.
Hattiesburg MS has a revitized downtown with several bars/clubs/restaurants with some good local and regional bands playing. A few dance clubs around if thats your thing. And its under 2 hours to New Orleans
I currently live in Montgomery, Alabama, but I want to move out of state. I love southern states so I am highly considering Mississippi. I'm in my late twenties, and want to find a place that has a good night life. What do you suggest?
Well as the story goes; this part of the country was discovered by the Spaniards and when they went back to Spain to report on what they found they told the queen that it was uninhabitable. That is pretty much still a true statement. Or to quote someone more recently when describing Mississippi he said ?If I owned this place and hell; I?d rent this place out and live in hell.
The Gulfcoast is'nt bad, I've lived here for over 20 years. But of course it will be even better when Jimmy Buffet opens Margaritaville casino by the end of the year.
Lived here most of my life but I would not recommend moving here. No jobs or entertainment. Good thing is in the rural areas, there is less crime than in big cities.
I was born and raised in Biloxi Gulfport area, however I have been stationed out west for the past 25 years. I still enjoy going back to be with family. It is such a slower pace of life.
Have to agree with the majority on this. About the only place your going to find what you are looking for is on the coast. Everywhere else mostly sucks for that. Though if you like slow country living most other place are not all that bad really.
OK, my recom. is to come visit Jackson first. As far as other U.S. capitals it is very much smaller, but some people like that. I'm a 29 y/o white male with a family and children and I do not feel at ALL scared to walk around Jackson at night. I actually work nights at a hospital located directly in downtown Jackson. Fondren area has some "swanky" appeal, but just a few miles north Madison has a brand new VERY nice mall and south a few miles has a booming, growing hotspot in the Dogwood mall area.
