where do i find...
competition shooting (handgun) and or a good shooting range in the Kansas City area?

Have you tried Google? A quick search and the first one that poped up was ShowMeShooters.com | Indoor Shooting Range and Gun Shop

there is a gun range to shoot at in claycomo, north of you about 10 or 15 miles.

Spend some time browsing the state shooting association web site. They can provide you with information on most all of the sanctioned shooting competitions in Missouri.
