The 3rd pic I am on the fence. While both of the commissioned officers are REQUIRED to salute, the 'hand over the heart' thing is a common courtesy/force of habit.

Well, let's look at defense. The government should be resonsible for protecting and defending the people against a military threat, right? How could we replace the military with a private sector organization? Who would fund it, how, and why?

This job - defense of the people - can not be commercially feasible, and it's pretty damn difficult to quantify its efficiency. "Well, we didn't get attacked this year, so we're doing well." "Well, we only lost Florida to attackers this year, so we're operating at 98% efficiency"

Dunno how it came across, but that was meant to come across as an agreement to your statement.

Military and our defense should be the gov't job. But as for the examples I had in mind when I read that, that would explain my reasons for saying that, I couldn't tell you... wish I could, but haven't been feeling well and my meds have me cloudy :/

It's not 9 welfare recipients collecting $950 each. $950 is about the sum total that his immediate family could have collected in welfare and housing assistance per month, not $8550.

While there isn't currently a Snopes article on this, there is a thread on the Snopes message board, and that led me to the Louisiana DCFS site.

teaberryeagle, when you come across something that you want to share, please do at least some basic fact checking before posting. When you get outraged that the government is doing something stupid, chances are pretty damn good that the situation has been misreported.
