Republican Party demands censorship of ad attacking their plan to end Medicare

Quote:
Republicans may have passed a plan to end Medicare and replace it with vouchers for private insurance, but apparently they don't want their political opponents to be able to tell anybody about it:
The battle over whether it?s true that the Republican plan would ?end Medicare? is about to play out in a critical way in New Hampshire.
The National Republican Congressional Committee, which oversees House races for the GOP, has written a sharply-worded letter demanding that a New Hampshire TV station yank an ad making that claim. Whether the ad gets taken down could help set a precedent for whether other stations will air Dem TV ads making this argument, which is expected to be a central message for Dems in the 2012 elections.

You can watch the ad, which is being aired by the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, at the top of this post, but the thing that has got Republicans all hot and bothered is the ad's assertion that the GOP voted to end Medicare. They say they want television stations to censor the ad because they don't believe their proposal would completely end Medicare...it would only end Medicare as we know it. (This is the same stupid argument Politifact made.)

According to the GOP's logic, if they had proposed eliminating the fire department and replaced it with a program giving you vouchers to purchase firefighting services from a private company, it would unfair to say they had proposed getting rid of the fire department. As if that weren't crazy enough, they want television broadcasters to censor anyone who disagrees with them.

You really couldn't picture a more perfect example of the GOP's hypocrisy on freedom of speech: the party that claims the U.S. Constitution gives corporations political rights also believes those very same corporations should censor grassroots political activists.

Republicans trying to keep cable networks from airing ads on their Medicare vote
HTML Code:
http://www.examiner.com/political-buzz-in-national/republicans-trying-to-keep-cable-networks-from-airing-ads-on-their-medicare-vote
Quote:
The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) is sending out letters to multiple cable networks warning them not to air television ads that criticize Republican Party votes for Rep. Paul Ryan?s Medicare plan. According to one letter sent to station WMUR in New Hampshire, the NRCC has succeeded in keeping ads from airing in multiple stations across the country. The ads in question (seen to the left) accuse Republicans of trying to ?END Medicare? with their most recent vote on Rep. Paul Ryan?s budget plan (R-WI). In the letter the NRCC claims that the ad is blatantly false, and at least implies legal action if the cable networks air the ad.

A full copy of the letter to broadcast station WMUR can be seen here. In the letter the NRCC strongly condemns the ad which is airing against Rep. Charlie Bass (R-NH). Bass voted for Paul Ryan?s budget plan last month. The NRCC claims that it is ?completely false? that Bass voted to ?END Medicare? by voting for the Ryan plan. The letter goes on to say that ?This is NOT an issue of interpretation.? The NRCC claims that a vote for the Ryan plan actually saves Medicare, ?It is plainly false to say that Charlie Bass ?voted to end Medicare.? In fact, the opposite is true and proven by fact ? a vote in favor of the Budget Resolution was a vote to protect Medicare for future seniors, and a vote to leave Medicare unchanged for current seniors.?

In the letter the NRCC also makes various reference to possible legal action. After citing two court precedents the NRCC warns WMUR.

?your network is not obligated to air any advertisements from third parties, such as the Progressive Change, as third parties have no guaranteed right of access to air their advertisements on your network. Thus, broadcasting stations are not protected from legal liability for airing a false and misleading advertisement sponsored by the Progressive Change.?

Broadcast licensees have a legal responsibility to review and to eliminate any false, misleading, or deceptive materials contained in advertising. We urge you to recognize the Progressive Change?s blatant disregard for the truth and we respectfully demand that your network refuse to air this false and misleading Advertisement. We further request that you reject any attempts by the Progressive Change to purchase time for the future airing of this Advertisement because of its material misstatements of fact and blatant disregard for the truth of the matter.?

Tell me how my $57,000 bill for surgery would have been covered without it.

Well, the republicans system would have given you a generous coupon for $5 off your "next" surgery after allowing the system to take your home and entire retirement!! As Bill Maher so humorously quoted the republican plan when someone comes down with cancer........... "Walk it off"!

I just find it amazing people can not see how much the republican party has become a "help the rich at all costs and let the average person become a peasant with no abilities to compete with the rich party......"

Personally, that video makes me sick, and it should sicken anyone who watches it. How do these people sleep with themselves at night?

Ha ha so a guy writes something on a board, and that means it's true, right? That video looked pretty staged - I wouldn't believe everything you see.

Additionally, unfortunately, a few members don't represent an entire party, or, in this case, an entire different party separate from themselves. Man, if it were like that, the dem's would be way too easy - just like in the mid-terms!
