Appalachian trail in NH

Hello-

When I was a younger man, I was told of a trail in NH that took you to a valley that had either a lake or waterfall that could only be accessed by hiking in, there was no roads that accessed it. It was maybe a 1/2 day or full day hike in to reach it.

Was this some magical place that doesn't really exist, or does my memory serve me well. I am not 100% sure it was part of the Appalachian trail or not. And I am not sure, but thought it might be in the White Mountains.

Any ideas if my memory is worth a damn?

Thanks!

Considering that a huge part of the northern half of the state is national forest land there are numerous lakes, ponds and streams that can only be reached on foot. Are you thinking of one in particular in a specific town?
