Wilksboro is north and east of you above Statesville off of 77 and it's not very close to you, well according to what you would call close

I frequently drive to Northern Ky and travel on 77 for about 100 miles of my trip. And I have been to Statesville once, nice city.

Oh far as a gun range you can probly go to Ft. bragg and shoot at their gun range unless you've had a record of some type, just call the main office at the post and ask if civilians can use the gun range there. I know used to you could but not sure since all the 911 crap

I used their range a few times when I was stationed at Pope AFB once for weapons qualifying and others just for practice. They got or used to have good long range fields 200 yrds and more. Range master got ticked at me when I kinda showed up a few of his boys at the long range shots then I told him where I came from and he said no wonder.
