I keep hearing about the hog problem in NC but when I try to find a place to hunt all I find are a few places that want my life savings for a one or two day canned hunt.
My wife likes to visit the casino at Cherokee a few times a year. I don't gamble but would love to buy a NC license if only I had a decent chance of getting a shot at a hog, on my on.
NC has a population; large; of feral hogs. Some have crossbred with different Russian breeds. Too; there are; plain feral hogs. Some of these haven't fear of man; they have become aggressive in some instances.
They are found across NC. Getting farmers to allow us to harvest; is very difficult. Deer hunters are leasing the farmers propertys; keeping other hunter traffic out.
My idea; harvest; and take to the ''Food Bank''; giving food to the needy
helping the farmers; with crop damage. Win win situation in my opinion; ''just'' doesn't happen; or hasn't yet

I remember seeing them years ago in the mountains near VA that were RELEASED! by some hunters but they died very quickly. There are a few here and there but they aren't as plentiful as other states. I have, however, seen a red wolf around here as well as other odd (for NC) animals.
Arkansas has a bad problem with them compared to NC. You can shoot them on sight there, there's no season, and there's no limit. The only regulation I know of was the fact you aren't supposed to shoot them on someone else's property nor at night.

I know a surgeon who bowhunts the hogs around the state and all over the US for that matter. He doesn't have as much trouble getting permission to hunt from the farmers as do rifle hunters. He does prefer, however, to hunt in a remote section of eastern NC but I'm not certain where. He and other doctors own a lodge there which is accessed by 4WD vehicle. The next time I see him around the first of the year I will get more info and report it.
