Green Homebuilders in NoVA?

I've searched and searched and never really found a consolidated place for "green" homebuilding in NoVA. Has anyone recently (or currently) built a "green" home in NoVA? I'd love to hear about your experiences, your contractors, etc.

I know a couple who were doing this in Purcellville. I'd have to do some digging to get their name if you want it.

Yeah, that Mitch

Do you mean something like a Passive house? I read somewhere that said Maryland will have the first certified Passive house in the DC metro area. I think it depends on what "green" focus you would want. Passive house design focuses on keeping houses well insulated with reduced air leaks. Other "green" designs would use solar heating, geothermal heat, etc.

I've been reading Northern VA real estate and building blogs for several years, and this realtor has some current posts related to green building in the area: Green Building : Piedmont Real Estate Blog .

There's also a yearly trek around the area to see solar and geothermal homes: 2010 Washington DC Solar Tour of Homes

And of course around about October there's a log home building thingy at the Capital Expo Center in Chantilly, VA, which sometimes has vendors with lots of green goodies.

A contractor who advertises himself as a Green builder moved into a Craftsman home in our neighborhood last year. He has done wonderous things to bring it back to it's former glory.

I'll get his name and let you know.

Green.. Our builder claims to be green. Brookfield offers "green" options like geo-thermal, solar, Energy Star appliances etc..
Not sure if that's what you are looking for though..
When I hear "green" I think reclaimed materials, alternative fuel/energy, carbon neutral, local purchasing. That's a tall order but if there's a market, there should be builders out there.

Whoever you use, try to get geothermal heat / cooling installed, it's well worth it.
