What the heck is a HOT lane?

High Occupancy Turdcarrier. (Or something like that)

Basically its an incentive to 'carpool' or 'rideshare' - they give you your own designated lane(s)/alternate route(s) for operators of vehicles that have more than one passenger.



And after reading further - the infamous "T" of the acronym - TOLL.
You get to pay $$$ for this said convenience.

There are HOV and HOT lanes.

HOV High Occupancy Vehicle (Cars 2 or more, motorcycle, vans, buses) are free.

HOT lanes are High Occupancy Toll lanes cost you. They are in the process of bringing the HOV lanes all the way down to Stafford here in VA.


With these lanes we also have people called Slugs. Slugs are too lazy to drive themselves and too cheap to pay train fair. So they stand in the middle of a commuter lot and bum rides to work and home every day of the week. There is a whole protocol you have to follow. You can't talk unless the driver talks. You can't change the radio you can't do anything buy ride unless the driver says its ok.
