I've got a Wal-Mart special vacuum that has survived almost 3 years of picking up Malamute hair... Paid $45 and it's bagless.

My granddad has a newer Kirby that really rocks, it's heavy, but self-propelled. Probably more than 5 years old...
Before that he had a much older Kirby that did a very good job, and was crazy heavy (all metal), but i think it got too hard for them to push...

Anybody got first-hand experience with the Shark brand vacuums I see on TV infomercials?

The very best that I've ever had is a Miele...by far, I've spoken to some folks from Britain that claim Dyson is a pos, and yes, Dyson is made in England.....

Just look at Miele, or better yet, check one out at a store, they are very well made. They have a feature that shuts off the beater if you get a rug caught in it and several other cool features.
