I think its mostly because quality has gone to hell.
People used to take pride in what they made.
Nowadays most do not care about quality much, and are fine with making junk.
Some exceptions do exist, but its now the rarer item that is made with quality foremost.

We do NOT need to raise taxes on the people. The government needs to spend less is the answer.
