on the way into town . . .
It's a real real long way to town, or even the highway. We're talking 20/25 miles. So we're tramming along and here's this young mother, early 20's walking along pushing a stroller in the middle of the desert. AND, there's a little girl in the stroller less than 2yrs. I stopped and ask her if she was ok, she was obviously scared of someone, looking over her shoulder. So, I loaded up the stroller and gave her a ride into town. She had bruises on her and said her & her boy friend got into a fight and he told her to get out. I asked her if she needed to call some one, "no", I asked if she wanted me to head straight to the nearest "cop shop" and she said "no". So she had us drop her off in town next to a grocery store and said her friends still worked there and she used to work there. She had also stated that she only moved to the area a "couple months ago" She just wasn't making any sense. I really didn't want to get in the middle of a domestic dispute with neighbors but then again, it's that little one I worry about. If mama goes back, that's HER choice, but that little one, she don't get a vote. Should I have called the cops? What would you have done? The reason we stopped to begin with is that it's triple digit weather here today, with high monsoonal humidity, it's 4 to 8 hrs from health to death out there in heat like this.
