I agree, it is a shame that it has to be torn down. I was under the impression, (apparently wrong), that anything 50+ yrs is a "national historical building".

a friggin Walgreens? C'mon now.

They might be eligible, but doesn't happen unless someone demands it to be registered as an Official Historic Site.

Unless I miss my guess it's probably the owner of the property that files for historic status. I could be wrong though. Maybe depends on if it's local, state or federal historic status? Creates a question for the property owners of filing and preserving the site or not filing and taking the money. Hmmm...?

I have a friend who placed his residence into the Official Historic Registry. He did receive property tax benefits (about 1/2 of the normal price) but it limited his ability to do anything to it unless he went to months and months of meetings, even to paint the interior of a room.

I've heard the same. The only improvements that would be allowed are those in keeping with the period design and architecture.

I know in Texas you have to file for it.

I didn't see any pics of the structure, maybe it was dilapidated?

I hate to see old structures get torn down, even dilapidated ones.
They are part of our history and need to be restored and preserved.

Most cities feel that if the "Historical Structure" doesn't (somehow) draw enough money into the city to at least pay for maintaining its existence...(within a certain amount of time that is) Then it's worthless.
And yes...it's usually the peoples voice that make the first decision.

It's called progress of a destitute society.
There's nothing civil about our civilization.
That's boston for ya, profoundly capable of negative forward thought and action!!

Wasn't Mass the 1st state to offer driver licenses to illegal aliens?
Wasn't mass the 1st state to claim the "no health insurance equals penalties from the i.r.s."??
Wasn't mass the 1st state in the founding of this country?
Where's the surprise that they're the 1st state to establish negative forward thinking?
