Where to visit in Oregon?

Eugene is a nice city to visit as it has a few more amenities than other small Oregon cities due to the University of Oregon being there and you are less than an hour from the coast. Lots of great breweries in Eugene that all offer tours and free samples. Be sure to check out Ninkasi, Oakshire and Hopworks.

Definitely go to the coast and be sure to buy or rent a sandboard for surfing the sand dunes!

when I arrived in 2005 I crossed the Cascades between Bend & Eugene. At the base of the Eugene side I dropped into a fly fishing shop to ask about possibilities. The owner told me that within 30 minutes of his shop one could fish for trophy sized fish of 5 varieties. (yum)

Then there's the sturgeon in the Columbia Gorge. Take a moment to tour the Bonneville Power Dam in the Columbia. They have a sturgeon tank where 8 ft. fish from another age glide by like zeppelins.

I think that you can have a pretty good time in Oregon no matter where you visit. The Oregon coast is always amazing, but for a sportsman, Central Oregon is great.

Indeed, the variety is amazing for one state. Back in PA Cabelas announced it's new Hamburg store would become Pennsylvania #1 tourist attraction. Thet were right. (weird)

just off the top of my head I can;

fish for trophy fish of a dozen or more varieties
dig for fossils around John Day
climb an obsidian mountain (and try to sneak out a new pair of bookends)
visit the Columbia Gorge where the beauty is nothing short of breathtaking.
Ski Mt. Hood 12 months a year
see Crater Lake
visit Oregon's Southeastern desert
tour the microbreweries of Portland
hunt for things I have no way of hauling home.
[back East signs read, CAUTION DEER, in Oregon they just read, ELK
watch Oregon football, the Trailblazers, rugby and soccer
watch winter storms hit the lovely coastline
hit the skateboard parks of Portland and other cities
it just goes on from there

Funny you put it that way. At 60 I was managing an Inn in PA but the owner was stealing from tenants. I was about to turn 60 and decided I'd live where I knew nature's beauty was all around me.
Left PA for a state where I knew no one, had no clue where to find work or even more than a guess as to where to live.
It may have been the best decision of my life and now I have a much shorter bucket list.

Include the Wallowa Range on the very eastern border of Oregon. Hell's Canyon in one of the largest canyons in the world...but it's a different breed than the Grand Canyon. They also have a lift that runs up into the trees there, I haven't been on them, but have seen them running.
