Why do runners run on the road -- in the dark?

It's the same thing as some Harley riders not wanting to wear a helmet because it's not cool. The saddest thing for vehicle drivers is when they hit, maim or kill that running dark figure, the load of grief, guilt and sadness is on his/her shoulders for years; if not a lifetime. Be visible and both sides of a tragedy can remain happy people.
