Waterfowl hunting

So I'm a pretty avid upland bird hunter and I would really like to break into some duck and geese hunting. Anyone have some tips for how to get started? I live in the middle of Kansas but I only hunt public land as it's impossible to get permission around here!

I'm not much help because I'm in the same boat as you, upland bird hunter who would love to try some waterfowl, but don't really know where to start. I figured if I post too maybe someone will feel sorry for us both and help us out with some tips, LOL!

You can definitely duck hunt on the cheap. PA is good for it, as public lands are often decent spots for waterfowl.... also navigable waterways are open to the public. Assuming you've got the shotgun (I've used a 20ga), camo, and a truck, you're mostly set for jump-shooting or hiding at a swamp. I don't carry decoys, but I do have good dog and a call. I spend the most money on gas.
