Anyone remember Ida Tarbell? She lived in my hometown, her residence is being restored.
memorial to Col. Edwin Drake, who drilled the first oil producing well.
The actual state park where the original well is located is undergoing a facelift, I will post pics when things are back to normal.

These are pics of the "Caboose Motel". Hotel rooms made from old cabooses, all painted to match old railroad companies.
There's a working railroad here too, mostly rides through the oil valley, but they do haul some freight.

Thanks, Canon SX20IS. Got it this Spring, thinking that I would learn on it, then bump up to a DSLR. Not real certain that I need to now....

The museum for Drakes Well is still undergoing a facelift. I'm guessing next Spring/Summer would be a better time to visit the museum.
The first pic is of the actual well, in the second pic you can see all the fencing.
Contractors are still working, it'll be nice when completed.

The outside area of the museum is loaded with old oil equipment and several working wells.
When I stopped today, you could clearly hear an old "hit and miss" engine running. In the next pics, you can see cables running through the foreground, they are moving back and forth running old pumps.
