Recently while visiting Pittsburgh me and my friends were excited to stumble upon a brewery call Church brew works. Does anyone know of any other good breweries in the Pittsburgh area.
I think RedStar in Greensburgh recently cosed and so did John Harvard (or whatever it was called, in Monroeville. Unfortunately it seem unless a place is really really old and established - they dont make it much past 5-8 years here in Western, PA.
Rivertowne Pour House is in several locations and has good food and good beer. Rock Bottom in homestead is a cool place with good food and good beer. Blue dust in homestead, Houghs in greenfield, D's six packs and dogs in monroeville and Regent square. There is Penn Brewery on the north side and HoffBrau Hous in south side. South side has FatHeads and Pipers Pub. I'm sure there are plenty more out there that I can't think of right now. Pittsburgh is loaded with good places.
Church has great food and a great atmosphere, but I've always been pretty underwhelmed by their beers. East End definitely makes the best beer in the city (though, as previously mentioned, it's just a brewery -- no food). If you have a chance, stop by (N Dallas & Susquehanna), try a few of their beers (free samples of everything), and pick up a growler or two.
