Yeah, Alaska seems to have a larger than normal share of idiots who are completely clueless with respect to the basics of doing something in the outdoors. It's weird. Of course, a lot of those people are tourists from the lower 48 who don't seem to realize that the "magic button" doesn't work up here like it does down there. If anyone comes at all, it's usually going to take a while.

I spent three good years at Ft. Wainwright. Every spring there would be bodies found, some from that winter others from years past. Not a forgiving place for the careless but I had a great time up there.

links dead

tomjohnson 10-01-2010 12:09 AM

yeah i just tried the link and it didnt work for me either, but i am guessing it was about those 4 people including the 3 park rangers who went down in the beaver on floats in aug. i heard yesterday that a pilot spotted the wreckage from the air, finally. sad to say it happens here quite frequently, but the reason is that air travel is more frequent here.

My daughter in Palmer says the neighbors always call when a grizzly bear is wandering through so they can get the kids and dogs inside! And I thought we had it bad with the occasional timber wolf in the yard.
