How often do you exercise?

How often do you guys workout/exercise? I'm curious as to everyone's habits...

I'm in the Marine Corps, so of course we PT every day, but I workout on my own agenda about 3-4 times a week - I try to keep at least some of my working out non-mandatory and fun!

Anyone trying some of that new P90X or Insanity? I've tried the P90X with some fellow Marines, and that thing's a good workout!

carolinawk 09-09-2010 05:59 PM

yeah i did the P90X Ab Ripper... yeahh.. that stuff is insane. I couldn't keep up with it... When i fired up the P90X program... I was already hitting the gym 4x's a week.. and running/biking in between. Also my gym workout already had 3 unique ab workouts so... it was bad timing. But yeah... I hit the gym ever other day, with exception of Sunday (Day of Rest) Bike/Run in between those days. Saturday is a sport day... Tennis/Bball/Frisbee w/e people are up to.

I was skating or doing weights everyday for a while then I got my puppy.

Recently It has been down to 3x a week including practices (roller derby so when we practice, it is a workout, you will leave drenched) . I would like to get back to everyday gym or skating or both though. I just have to remember I want to be able to walk the next couple days when I do go to the gym (unlike last time).

jeepgurl775 09-13-2010 01:42 PM

I go at least 3 days a week, but usually I am there 5 or 6. 3 miles on the elliptical, and then some weights. I love it. I have been really sick the last week and haven't gone and I miss it soooooo much!

Jake7 09-13-2010 01:52 PM

I miss the days without kids when I could go to the gym for hours on end and not worry about my wife being home alone with 2 crying little ones!

How about recreational stuff?

Right now I surf/dive a few times a week to kind of switch it up and keep it interesting, yknow?

What do you guys do for a fun workout?

jeepgurl775 09-13-2010 01:55 PM

Yeah my rugrats went to live with their Dad so I have to go to the gym to keep from going insane!

I like to go hiking, or for a nice long bike ride. I also like to go up to Tahoe to swim!

Austin 09-13-2010 03:45 PM

Every other day. Sometimes I miss a day, no worries, I'm young and have all the time in the world!

Griffin 09-13-2010 06:03 PM

Most days I try to do a minimum of this, in this order: Go to the gym, 10 minutes on bike, high intensity, 15 minutes of stairmill, high intensity, I do that for a warm up, then, 45 minutes doing different machines that use your upper body, then a 5K run.

I use to be doing a lot more, but I've been quite busy lately.

work has been kicking my butt lately, but i like to go at least 4 times a week. run 4 miles, pushups, situps, then mix it up for the legs.

silbotta 09-13-2010 08:57 PM

when i played college soccer i worked out every day , now its like once a week because of work and stuff

JCJ 09-13-2010 09:06 PM

I haven't worked out in 6 years.. I played hockey 7 days a week, sometimes twice a day until I popped 2 disc in my back getting run over by a stupid race car.. No more joy..

Amazingly enough the car was fine and able to continue without damage..

Austin 09-17-2010 11:10 AM

I meant your back.

JCJ 09-17-2010 01:42 PM

You knew I knew that you knew that I knew..

Tried a chemical nerve block to see if spinal nerve cauterization was an option and I didn't respond. Got steroid injections for a few years with limited success. Met with Dr. Trammel who is considered the best in the racing industry for back injuries (primarily driver injuries) and he advised that I would be better off waiting several more years for technology to catch up in the disk replacement field. % of success for my specific injury(s) isn't that great.

I religiously use my inversion table and have a prescription for the non-narcotic pain killer called Tramadol that has worked wonders for my quality of life. Now all I have to do is figure out a workout regime that both interests me and doesn't whack my back so I can lose about 20 lbs and that will help the back a bunch.

Motorcharge 09-18-2010 10:03 AM

I've been walking halfway to work and back instead of taking the bus the whole way the last 2 weeks. Morning's I wouldn't really count, but when I get off it's about 10 blocks to the busline up a stupidly steep hill. I've lost about 20 pounds in the last 2 weeks so far from it lol.

Thinking I'm gonna start going to the gym on my next paycheck.

Motorcharge 09-18-2010 10:07 AM

Yeah disk pain blows, I popped 2 out of place when I worked at Lowe's and basically spent 9 months in bed vibrating in pain because I didn't have insurance.

It's pretty ok now and I think losing weight is going to help it quite a bit. I'm pretty much used to the pain from it now from working construction right after through 2009.

Jake7 09-19-2010 02:33 PM

Back injuries scare me.

wade42470 09-19-2010 09:56 PM

I have 2 bad discs also and wake up in agony every morning, through the day with the aid of a few pills and just by loosening up itself it gets a little better but back to almost crying in the morning again.

jamba 09-24-2010 05:45 AM

i've got two small kids (<3) and one due any day. plus I work a lot and I'm thinking about going to school.

working out? ha! no time for that.

my "working out" is turning wrenches on the jeep in what little spare time I have :)

Jake7 09-24-2010 12:58 PM

Hah well said good sir. I've got two kids myself, and they definitely do take a good chunk of time!

Motorcharge 09-25-2010 07:28 AM

The walk uphill from work every day has been great for me so far. I've lost about 15 pounds in the last 3 weeks since I started and I can already feel less pressure on my back from it.

There's a YMCA up the street from where I work I might join. It's nice too because it's in a nice guarded financial center with an Omni hotel in it.

duayne77 09-25-2010 09:45 AM

I exercised once or twice a year, now not so much.

helicase50 09-25-2010 06:03 PM

I am getting back up to everyday, I have to say the only things I really hate (I like working out) are push-ups, and running. The rest once you build up the muscles aren't that bad to do.

jeepcache 09-25-2010 06:38 PM

N.O. XPLODE WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Hah, horrible for you, my friend...

I did heavy lifting for one summer with that N.O. crap, and threw out my shoulder. Five years later, I'm finally getting reconstructive surgery in November!

Not worth it!

jeepcache 09-26-2010 05:48 AM

i just use it for running, im not much of a lifter...

I know being a guy you like bulk, but it is so much better to do less weight and more reps. You will actually be stronger and it is better for your body.

jeepcache 09-26-2010 12:08 PM

like i said in my last post, i dont lift. i have enough natural bulk.

I'm pretty bulky, but I still lift. It keeps the bulk up as I start getting less able to do it naturally.

Jake7 09-29-2010 02:47 PM

That's funny we're talking about this. Normally I'm not a huge lifter, as in the Corps we do TONS of calisthenics. However, I just started seriously lifting again last week

No supplements here, however!

Austin 09-30-2010 09:36 AM

Is coffee supplement? I drink a lot of it, when it gets to much, I lift.

havasu 09-30-2010 11:28 AM

I just mopped the floors...does that count?

Hah, no it's not a supplement... do you have a will? If not, could you include me in it? :)

I have will, just not a will. You'll get a mention. ;)

Did you want my 80's hair metal cassette collection? I'm not sure why I have it.

jeepride 10-02-2010 09:12 PM

Samuri88 10-03-2010 09:17 PM
