My mom and grandma live in the Arctic circle... if you wear the right gear it's an amazing place to visit. I love visiting her and the rest of my family there, although I am partial to Virginia climate now so I wouldn't be able to live there. I took the first 3 pictures, my mom took the last 2 and sent them to me.

Wow. I just googled Aklavik. You can't get much further north than that without falling into the Beaufort Sea!
I'm guessing that's considered part of the MacKenzie River delta right? The amount of water I'm seeing there is pretty extreme. How are the mosquitos up there when everything thaws out? Ever since reading Farley Mowatt's tales of the Canadian north many years ago I've wanted to visit that area of our country. Post more pics if you have them. |
