Maine 4x4 Club - Wheeling
For those interested in legal and Treadlightly! wheeling in Maine - please visit Maine 4x4 Club - THE source for all things offroad in Maine. Great Group of Guys, with Member and non-member events. (I highly recommend becoming a member)

2 Things to consider if you are a wheeler and considering moving to Maine:
-Maine Inspection Laws make it difficult to drive a highly modified rig on the street in Maine, such a limit of tire upsizing of maximum 2 sizes resulting in 2" inches or less (link to our inspection manual -, )
-Legal places to wheel in Maine are becoming more and more scarce, but that's not unique to Maine

I can't believe I didn't post this yet. What a crappy leader I am.:o

What part of the State are you all in?

CheapJ 10-08-2010 02:57 PM

Everywhere. Honest. We have members in NH, Kittery, Portland, Lewiston/Auburn, Augusta, Wayne, Winthrop, Bangor, Brunswick, Brewer, Livermore Falls, Farmington, and on an on. We cover the whole state.

It's a good group. Spend most of my time wheeling in NH, but Maine has some good stuff.
Rock Mountain Terrain will probably be getting some more stuff soon

what are the laws in the state reguarding body lift and suspension lift?

Cavitation 10-16-2010 07:12 AM

As far as I know frame height is restricted to depend on what your vehicle weighs. And body ifts are OK but you can not use hockey pucks or thing like that . It has to be a "manufacturered BL"

I believe my Jeep can be no more than 24 inches to the frame on the front and 26 inches on the rear. A pick-up that weighs more can be a bit taller.

I've always been under the impression M4x4 was predominantly southern maine

I just registered and am awaiting approval.

I live in the southern part of the state, but we have a camp in the Jackman area.

Oh, no way. We have members everywhere.

Most are Portland to Augusta, but we have people as far north as PI and as far south as Mass.
