Anyone else named after a city?

Or am I alone? I know Austin is a regional, but I here it more and more. Any one have a city name that's different? Do different states name there kids after locations, or is Texas alone? I had a friend named Dallas growing up.

jeepcache 10-13-2010 12:29 PM

No, the city was named after that guy, I was named as a homage to the city, my parents did not know Stephen F. Austin, nor did they hold any reverence for him.

Neither, I was just kidding.
My sister-in-law lives in New Jersey and driving through I'm amazed at some of the names. Flemington, which is the town next to theirs always make me think of the cold and flu season.

I was named after the lumber company my grandma worked for. It was their last name. My parents just changed the spelling for a girl.

I would take a city any day.

azvoiceman 02-03-2011 03:49 PM

Sorry for the delay in answering, Austin, her name is Madison, as in Wisconsin. We were there for a conference and hadn't seen each other in a while....

By the way, she is 25 now, so this wasn't some crazy devotion to "Mermaid".

Thanks for answering! That's a cool story, does she know it?

azvoiceman 02-04-2011 12:46 PM

You must be joking, she's a better shot than I am. We pray she never finds out.

I would wait till she's at the house then right before you go to bed, just drop it on her and say goodnight.

"You were named after the city you were conceived in, see you in the morning.". As a parent and a child, I would appreciate that.

azvoiceman 02-05-2011 12:56 PM

Not a bad idea, Austin. It would be fun to do right after she marries her fiance. You know, give them something to talk about that first night.

Raven_Rage 02-07-2011 06:35 AM

hahahahaha^^^
